TECHNICAL ASPECTS
DIGITIZATION OF MATERIALS
The Bell Glass Plate Negatives are comprised of original glass plate negatives from the Special Collections department at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida. The collection is comprised of over 7500 individual plates ranging in size from 5x7 to 8x10.
DIGITIZATION
Digitization of the Collection was performed using a Umax PowerLook 2100 XL scanner with a transparency media adaptor. All original scans were captured in 24 bit color at 600 pixels per inch resolution. From these master TIFF images, full-size grayscale TIFF, full-size JPEG2000, and JPEG thumbnail images are derived using an Adobe Photoshop macro. These derived images all conform to nationally established guidelines and are eventually uploaded for display on the web. The color master TIFF images will eventually be uploaded to the FCLA Digital Archive.
CATALOGING & METADATA
Metadata information for each image is pulled from a local database created by the John C. Pace Library Special Collections Department. MARC records for each image are created by FCLA when the packages are processed.
