Summary:
FCLA's XPAT Image Class middleware (v.11) supports compressed
images in the JP2 format for PALMM Visual
Collections. JPEG 2000 is a new standard for
still image compression from the JPEG
committee. No single method of processing is
recommended, but Kakadu,
ImageMagick,
or Adobe® Photoshop® CS (Photoshop
8.0) software currently allow JP2 processing.

Process:
No single method of processing is recommended. However,
the following Instructions
provide one example using Adobe® Photoshop® CS (Photoshop
8.0).
Quality control:
A visual inspection together with a query of the file header
should be completed by spot check. Spot check requires
inspection of every image in thumbnail view and of no less
than 10% of the images in full-image view. A variety of factors
effecting on-screen and print legibility should be examined.

University's Digital
Imaging Tutorial: Quality Control.
