Every map selected for digitization receives the project code "MAP". Other project codes may be applied as necessary to associate a given map with another project. A map of Florida, for example, belongs to both the "World Map Collection" (project code "MAP") and the Florida Heritage Collection (project code "FHP").

One additional geographic filter may also be assigned. Chosen from the following list, these filters are mutually exclusive. Only one geographic filter is allowed. Recommended assignments follow. Some knowledge of historical names may be necessary to use these lists.
